NY Street Style: Spring Chiffon. Cobalt Blue. Stripes. Fiercenezz. Queer Street Style.

This amazing fellow made all of the jewelery he is wearing! Also, he is only 21 years old. He is simply ah-gayze-ing. I love the colors and unique proportions. Not everyone can rock a chiffon navy/cobalt blue oversize stripped shirt. I really like the pendants he is wearing, especially the fan pieces. Very Karl.

NY Street Style: Spring Style. Cozy, Cute Suede Shorts!

Not everyone can rock an outfit like this. Love the suede shorts. She was the first person I took a street style photo of. She and her friends were just lovely.

Amazing hair, cozy whites. Love her glasses and earrings and makeup...and friendly smile!

And stylish friends too. Love the hair and eyebrows on the left hand side.

DJing in Brooklyn TONIGHT! All $$$ goes to Silva Rivera Law Project!

I am DJing in Brooklyn at Hey Queen TONIGHT!
Just head to Public Assembly.
I am playing from 10 until midnight!

All of the money goes to support The Sylvia Rivera Law Project. They are an INCREDIBLE organization that does so much important work in our community. Here is their mission statement. Please do check out their website.

"The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence." (http://srlp.org/about)

Who was Silvia Rivera?

"She may have been the prototypical Angry Queen. Unbowed, unbought, and virtually indigestible by a gay movement she helped birth, Stonewall warrior Sylvia Rivera died on February 19."
Ricki Wilchins
"Finding food, shelter, a safe bed, and even some recognition for genderqueer kids was a lifelong passion for Sylvia. She saw them as society's most vulnerable outcasts. She picketed and protested, caucused and cajoled, and if the occasion called for it, which it often did, she submitted to arrest."
Ricki Wilchins
"She was a tireless advocate for all those who have been marginalized as the "gay rights" movement has mainstreamed."

St.Marilyn

First off, please do excuse the totally queermo obscure reference to Patrick Califia. However, ever since reading 'Macho Sluts", I love to think that I have my own Saint Marilyn, like the femme character does in one of the stories.
A Saint Marilyn to help me on my Femme way. To keep me from falling in heels, reminding me where to put perfume, and that I can wear anything with the right attitude

The hair, the pants, the range. I love the photo booth quality of this montage. Monroe meet Amelie de Poulain

Oh Michelle Williams....oh Hay girl Haaaay.
She seems to have Miss Monroe down to a T! I am so excited to see this! Who's with me?

Private Diva Moment P.D.M.

SO! DJ Noisy Nora's return to the stage was triumphant! Hooray! I had a great time playing at Hey Queen! (Pics are forthcoming.) Among my usual Lil' Kim, Sergio Mendez, La Roux, mixin'....I played this song mash up from Glee. Yes Glee. No DJ hipster snobbery here.
I haven't even seen the episode yet but I love it and can't get it out of my head.

"When you played that song, everyone in the room had their own Private Diva Moment."
 - Hannah May, audience member, queer dance party expert, in her mid-twenties

So I invite you to play this video,
turn it all the way up
and have your own P.D.M.
(also known as Private Diva Moment.

NEW SHOP!!!!! Nora's Novitys

Subversive and Snarky Ceramics and Pottery

I paint on ceramics, porcelain, pottery, and whatever I can get my hands on! You can hang my pieces on a wall for funky home decor, or use them everyday.

My pieces deal with the discord of naughty words, queer identity terms, and feminist icons being painted onto flowery vintage china, porcelain, and pottery.

I love to take vintage china and mix in troublemakers, sexuality, feminism, queers, and whimsey.
Join me in saying NO to conservative stuffy tea parties. Say YES to fun.

I hope that my pieces make you do a double take. I hope you are titillated by my work. I hope you will to use these pieces to decorate your home, for an inappropriate tea party, or to make a lover smile when you serve them cake.

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE to do custom work!!!
Need a gift for your kinky friend? Best friend? Punk Rock Homemaker? Your lover? Your mom? I will do CUSTOM pieces, with discounts for friends!!!

Or maybe you just need to buy yourself a mug that says 'butch queen' for xmaz.

Sup Interwebs....

Hey there interwebs, my name is Nora. I am a 24 year old queer Stone Femme. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I lived and went to school in Montreal for five years before coming to Brooklyn in September 2010. If you think Los Angeles isn't awesome you should read anything by Francesca Lia Bloch or check out the Museum of Jurassic Technology or go to the Venice Boardwalk. Brooklyn is also awesome. It has everything you need. Even supplies for superheros. For serious.
This exists in Brooklyn.
I am currently slogging my way through a Masters at NYU at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Translation: A Choose your own Adventure Masters. I am focusing my studies on Sexuality and the Trans Community and I hope to eventually write a thesis. Without gut-wrenching procrastination. So starting a blog is a great idea.

For some reason this represents how I feel about school right now.
I have an Etsy shop (Nora's Necessities), and I spend an inordinate amount of time working it. I started it in Los Angeles this summer, and I have found it addicting.

Selling on Etsy dangerously combines some of my favorite activities; talking and thinking about fashion, thrift shopping for vintage clothing and treasures, photography, learning about different decades, collaging (making treasuries), networking, collecting, and did I mention thrift shopping?
Oh darling work it.
Nora's Necessities carries vintage notions of all kinds, for all fabulous vixens, housewives/husbands, collectors, and just about everyone. I try to find vintage items of all sizes, for all genders, for all ages.

I am always trying to find all kinds of models, of all sizes, genders, colors, ages, abilities, tattooed....etc. Mostly my friends model for me. I hope to post Etsy things on here, give you deals, show you behind the scenes, share treasuries and all that bru-ha-ha. Ooooh and post some fashionbloggery!

Mala Rodriguez wants you to notice her awesome eyeliner.

I DJ under the name Noisy Nora, so hopefully I will be sharing some music with you. I have very eclectic music taste, some of my faves are Wanda Jackson, Lil Kim, Otis Redding, Patti Smith, and Mala Rodriguez to name a few.

Identity and anti-oppression politics are important to me so I may be musing about intersectionality or phenomenology or gender neutral bathrooms or what have you. (Dear academia i lovehate you.)

Hey there I am milk glass.
I have five tattoos, and I would love to get more and talk about awesome tattoos and tattoo artists on here.

I love milk glass, mad men, ballet, punk, queers, butches, Patrick Califia books, talking about gender theory, Montreal in the summer, very very fluffy cats, Ru Paul's drag race, peanut butter and chocolate, my wonderful partner, Los Angeles, the fall, 50's dresses, my chosen family, staying up late, John waters movies, and lots lots more. Hopefully I will have time to get to it all.

Basically, I am hoping to carve out my own little slice of ecclectic internet pie.

I hope you're with me. We can eat internet pie together.

            XXXO,
                    Nora
Peanut Butter Chocolate Internet Pie. For you.
